Are We About to Witness the Biggest Betrayal in College Football History?

In a stunning turn of events, Jim Harbaugh has resigned as head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, effective at the end of the 2023 season. (Click to read more) This comes just weeks after the NCAA announced that it was investigating the Michigan football program for recruiting violations and a sign-stealing scandal.

The nature of the recruiting violations is still unclear, but the NCAA is reportedly investigating allegations that Michigan coaches contacted recruits during dead periods and made false statements to the NCAA. The sign-stealing scandal involves allegations that Michigan used a low-level staffer to record opponents' games and steal their signals.

Harbaugh has denied any knowledge of the recruiting violations and the sign-stealing scandal. However, his resignation raises questions about his future and the future of the program.

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that Urban Meyer is reportedly considering taking over the Michigan football program, and was seen on campus in Ann Arbor on Tuesday.  Meyer is a two-time national champion and one of the most successful college football coaches of all time. However, he also has a history of off-field problems, including allegations that he turned a blind eye to domestic violence allegations against one of his assistants.

The elephant in the room is, of course, the notion of Meyer jumping sides in "The rivalry".  Imagine the sight of Meyer, who was 7-0 as the Buckeyes coach against the Wolverines, on the other sideline in "The Game."  In a college football that is reshaping in front of our eyes, it seems anything really is possible.
