2023 Georgia Southern Eagles Football Preview

The Georgia Southern Eagles are looking to build on their 7-6 record from last season in 2023. The Eagles return a number of key players, including quarterback Shai Werts, running back Zaquandre White, and wide receiver Jalen Nailor.

Werts is entering his senior season and is the team's most experienced quarterback. He threw for 2,963 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. White is a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference running back who rushed for 1,296 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022. Nailor is a big-play receiver who caught 53 passes for 904 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

The Eagles also return a number of other key players on offense, including wide receivers Tyler Bass and Keon Hatcher, tight end Tyler Snead, and offensive linemen Justin Senior and Brandon Dowdell.

On defense, the Eagles return a number of starters, including defensive end J.J. Peterson, linebacker Jared Bartlett, and safety Keith Rucker. Peterson led the team with 10 sacks last season, while Bartlett had 95 tackles and Rucker had 7 interceptions.

The Eagles also return a number of other key players on defense, including defensive backs Tyrique Stevenson and Elijah Hamilton, linebacker Noah Dawkins, and defensive tackle Justin Evans.

The Eagles have a tough schedule in 2023, but they have the talent to compete for a bowl berth. They open the season at home against The Citadel, then face UAB and Wisconsin on the road. They also have road games against Coastal Carolina, James Madison, and Marshall.

I predict that the Eagles will win 7-8 games in 2023. They have the talent to win more, but their schedule is tough. If they can stay healthy and play their best football, they could make a bowl game.
